The Numerical Expression Plugin is a powerful add-on for the LabExe program. It lets the user integrate any numerical expression into the program and link it to existing input by just drag-and-dropping the parameters from other par of the program.
As a free text field, it allows the user to write any mathematical function and define the variables of that function in terms of data inputs coming real-time from the experiment. As a result, the user can now monitor real-time relevant data that are calculated from directly observed input. Furthermore, the result of the computation is displayed as yet another parameter that can be further dragged and dropped, e.g. for plotting (see the LabExe - Param Plotter Plugin).
Use case in the context of ultra-cold atom trapping:
The temperature of an atomic cloud can be inferred from the rate of expansion of the trap once it's released and is free-falling. Every new picture of such expanding cloud can be fitted (see the LabExe - Gaussian Fitter Plugin) and the characteristics of the fit input as parameters into the LabExe program. With the Numerical Expression Plugin, those parameters can be defined as the variables of an equation that computes the temperature or any other physical value the user is interested in.
The numerical expression plugin takes the versatility of free form writing and gives it functional power. Any mathematical expression that the user can conceive of is now instantly integrated into the real-time data output of your experiment.
