Command Line Image Manipulation
ImageMagick® is a software suite to create, edit, and compose bitmap images. It can read, convert and write images in a variety of formats (over 100) including DPX, EXR, GIF, JPEG, JPEG-2000, PDF, PhotoCD, PNG, Postscript, SVG, and TIFF. Use ImageMagick to translate, flip, mirror, rotate, scale, shear and transform images, adjust image colors, apply various special effects, or draw text, lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves.

Very useful for certain applications, including as a plugin for Lightroom LR/Enfuse.

I use the command line interface to resize images and create thumb nails from a batch script.
This is extremely fast and saves you the tedious task of doing it manually in a GUI.
The documentation is heavy and technical but after a bit of trial and error I got my script right.
Thumbs up for command line option.
